Homemade pesto

This is our second time attempt to make basil pesto this year. The school garden still produces beautiful summer vegetables and herbs which could be kept as a sauce or in the freezer for the cooler season.
Ingredients- fresh basil leaves, garlic, cashew nuts and olive oil. Parmesan cheese will be added.

Now we have enough pesto for the rest of the year (2L)!

Week 6 - Curry and Pinwheel

85 students enjoyed popular curry and pizza pinwheels today:-). The front of house staff did really well serving for a big crowd. Apparently Harold the giraffe could smell our curry too!

Our curry has plenty of fresh tomatoes and courgettes from the garden

Week 6 - Vegetable Lasagna and Stir-fry

It was absolutely a day of vegetables! Pity we can't show you the pictures of all the fresh vegetables, but children got a lot of nutrients from those dishes.
For Lasagna, we used courgette, yellow squash, carrot, capcicum, broccoli, onion, garlic and tomatoes mostly from the garden. For the Asian style beef stir-fry, we added broccoli, beans, courgette, carrot and red capcicum. The children had good appetites with the magic of melted cheese on lasagna and sweet soy flavor on stir-fry. Thank you again for all the helpers!!

Week 5 - Noodle and Frittata

Asian style egg noodles served in chicken and veggie soup:-)

Garden vegetable frittata- kumara, courgette, corn, carrot and broccoli

Mr. Kumara

When I went to the garden to pick up a big fat kumara which Mrs. Turner dug out earlier, a group of girls were gathering at the table and tasting some herbs and vegetables at lunch time:-). One of them let Mr. Kumara to rest in her basket while I was taking a picture of him. He will turn into a yummy frittata on Friday!

Week 4- Sushi and Taco!

Another popular menu in our canteen is sushi! We have skilled parents who roll them up like a magic! Our classic fillings are smoked salmon, grated carrot/ cucumber, carrot and avocado:-). It's getting popular among the school staff too. Taco was first introduced this time as tomatoes and lettuces are available from the garden. Nice summery meal followed by the frozen yogurt stick!
